NY-10 currently encompasses large portions of Lower Manhattan and Western Brooklyn. In the 2022 Democratic primary, lawyer Dan Goldman defeated State Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou 25-23 in a packed field, and went on to easily win the general election. However, he only managed 66% of the vote against two lesser-known challengers in 2024, leading to speculation about vulnerability to a primary challenge from the left in one of the most progressive-leaning areas of NYC.
Major potential challengers include DSA-backed local Sunset Park Councilwoman Alexa Aviles, NYC Comptroller and close Mamdani ally Brad Lander, gun violence activist Cameron Kasky, and former second-place finisher Niou, but it remains to be seen who will actually run.
REMINDER: NYC Congressional primaries do not use ranked-choice voting.
