Assuming that only two candidates will actually get any electoral votes, the third place candidate is the candidate who receives the third-largest share of the popular vote in the general election. If three or more candidates actually do receive electoral votes, then the third place candidate is either the candidate with the third-most electoral votes (if there's of an Electoral College winner), or the candidate with the third-most votes from the House of Representatives state delegations (if the election goes to the House).

In the case of a tie for third place, I'll resolve equally to the tied candidates.

RFK is currently behind Jill Stein by about 20k votes, but I think he'll make up the gap with the remaining votes in CA.

Extremely close at the moment, given the votes that have been counted:

How is RFK so high given his name is only on the ballot of Michigan and Wisconsin which comprise <5% of the US population - write ins? After he has told his supporters to vote Trump? And why is Jill so low? She have name recognition and pulls Gaza voters. I’m very unsure about all this though.

@summer_of_bliss RFK is also on the ballot for the majority of the other states that aren't swing states.

@TimothyJohnson5c16 Ah thank you, my bad. Makes some more sense.

@TimothyJohnson5c16 What’s your rough view on the odds here?

@summer_of_bliss Before he endorsed Trump, RFK seemed like the obvious choice. Now I'm not sure.

Betting on Biden here on the basis that if he drops out he may still remain on some ballots
