So far, Germany only has intermediate storage facilities for nuclear waste but no ultimate disposal place (Endlager). The german parliament (Bundestag) intended to make a decision by 2031 but the organization looking for place now targets 2046-2068 for such a decision.
This question is resolved with a decision of the Bundestag. Proposals by departments or other organizations are not sufficient for resolution. The decision only needs to be about the place and related decisions (e.g. about budget) can be left open. It must be a precise place, so just deciding about the state is not sufficient.
Also, see this question when the decision will be made.
@Primer Current estimates on when a decision will be made got pushed back to 2046-2074
